In Niger, crop farmers are extending their fields into areas designated for livestock

In Niger herders have been designated certain enclaves as pasture for their livestock. Hoefsloot Spatial Solutions has established that crop farmers moved in to grow crops, thus risking conflicts. This has been found while analysing Sentinel 2 satellite imagery of 2016 and 2023. What is the cause? Population growth that forces them to do this? Gradual greening up of the Sahel that makes this trend possible? Further research is needed. The report is available upon request. See map https://lnkd.in/e8yD8eUj
