App to Monitor Drought in Nature Areas in the Netherlands

The Dutch province of Noord-Brabant has several nature reserves that are vulnerable to drought and form part of a European network of protected areas. Working with the KWR Watercycle Research Institute and FutureWater, HSS combined groundwater modelling and remote sensing to monitor the “drought state” of three of them: Groote Peel, Kampina and the Brabantse Wal.
HSS then built an app and a website to present the results to the public: using the phone’s GPS, visitors see information about the exact spot where they are standing.
